Meet Jasmine Strauss

How long have you lived in the Willamette Valley?

About 30 years! I moved to this area with my family when I was 12 years old. After marrying my high school sweetheart we lived in both Eugene and Springfield for several years. We finally bought our first home 9 years ago in the small town of Harrisburg. We love raising our little family there. Close enough to the bigger cities, quiet enough to relax.

What does ‘self care’ look like to you?

For me, self care is journaling, reading and spending time outdoors. Unplugging and brain dumping so I can stop thinking about every. little. thing. Of course, nothing beats some good, quality coffee, chocolate, and a date night with my husband.

What is your biggest fear?

As a mother, my biggest fear is something terrible happening to my children. On a more relatable note: snakes and spiders. As long as they are in a cage or outside, I'm ok. But loose....that's a whole other story!

What is your favorite family vacation?

Hands down, the Beach with my family! We love to play, explore and hike around our lovely coastal beaches together.

What would you sing at Karaoke night?

My introverted self would not even dare. I can't carry a tune in a bucket, no need to share that with the world! I will wholeheartedly clap and sing along with you from my seat any day though.

What is the best gift you have been given?

Spiritually: Salvation. forgiveness, and grace from my Savior. Physically, my children. They are an indescribable gift from God that I am honored to be entrusted with. Materially: My grandmother gave me a pearl necklace on my wedding day that I cherish as it was her last gift to me before she passed away.

What’s your favorite family tradition?

Our family is ALL about the food! Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays because we spend all week making tons of food. We try a new recipe every year and have a few family favorites that everyone agrees 'make' the holiday worth it. My kids and I bake pies for everyone in our extended family and ourselves to make the best part of Thanksgiving dinner (dessert!) last a little longer.

Who knows you the very best?

My mom. We have always been close, and as I grew into motherhood, we became even closer. I wouldn't be who I am without her.

U of O or OSU?

We are a divided household, lol! U of O for football and basketball. OSU for baseball and wrestling.

What shows are you into?

I like shows I can watch with my whole family: The Middle, The Goldberg's and The Flash are our favorites. I like Call the Midwife and The Crown when the kids are asleep.

What age do you wish you could permanently be? Why?

I would love to be 35 forever. Old enough to know better, young enough to keep up with all the things!

How do you like your coffee?

Cream, no sugar. At least 3 cups a day. Coffee is life!

Why did you become a doula?

I have always loved the idea of coming alongside others and building them up to become stronger. Since the births of my own four children,I have heard , seen and experienced a huge gap in the area of building up mothers to become who they want to be. Becoming a doula has been a way for me to bridge that gap and fill in those places where people need someone to come alongside them and give them the extra hand they need to flourish and go on to become even stronger and more confident in their own abilities as parents.
